1. About the Code
The NDIS Code of Conduct (established under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Code of Conduct) Rules 2018) sets out the standard of conduct required of all NDIS providers and workers. The Code applies to every Hausmate employee, contractor, and volunteer without exception.
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is responsible for enforcing the Code and can take action against providers and workers who breach it.
2. The Seven Obligations
The NDIS Code of Conduct requires all NDIS providers and workers to:
- Act with respect for individual rights to freedom of expression, self-determination and decision-making in accordance with applicable laws and conventions
- Respect the privacy of people with disability
- Provide supports and services in a safe and competent manner with care and skill
- Act with integrity, honesty and transparency
- Promptly take steps to raise and act on concerns about matters that might have an impact on the quality and safety of supports provided to people with disability
- Take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to all forms of violence against, and exploitation, neglect and abuse of, people with disability
- Take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct
3. How We Meet the Code
| Obligation | How Hausmate Meets It |
|---|---|
| 1. Rights and self-determination | Participants co-design their service plan; consent is obtained before any support; participants can change or cancel services at any time |
| 2. Privacy | Privacy Policy and data security controls in place; staff training on confidentiality obligations; no disclosure without consent except as required by law |
| 3. Safe and competent delivery | All staff hold NDIS Worker Screening clearance, complete induction and ongoing training, and are supervised regularly |
| 4. Integrity and honesty | All claims are made accurately and at or below NDIS Price Guide rates; no hidden fees; transparent service agreements |
| 5. Raising concerns | Clear incident and complaint reporting pathways; staff are encouraged and required to report concerns without fear of reprisal; Whistleblower Policy in place |
| 6. Preventing violence, exploitation, neglect and abuse | Mandatory NDIS Worker Screening; zero tolerance policy; mandatory reporting obligations; all incidents investigated and reported to the Commission |
| 7. Preventing sexual misconduct | Clear policy prohibiting any form of sexual misconduct; all workers trained on appropriate boundaries; any allegation immediately investigated and reported |
4. Worker Obligations
Each Hausmate worker is individually bound by the NDIS Code of Conduct. The Code applies regardless of the worker's role, qualification level, or employment type (employee, contractor, volunteer). Workers are required to:
- Read and sign the Hausmate Code of Conduct acknowledgement at induction
- Complete the NDIS Commission's Worker Orientation Module ("Quality, Safety and You") prior to commencement
- Participate in annual Code of Conduct refresher training
- Report any concerns about Code breaches — by themselves or others — immediately
5. Breaches
Any breach of the NDIS Code of Conduct will be taken seriously and managed in accordance with Hausmate's disciplinary policy. The response will be proportionate to the nature and severity of the breach and may include:
- Additional training or supervision
- A formal warning or performance management process
- Suspension pending investigation
- Termination of employment or contract
- Mandatory notification to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission
6. Reporting a Concern
Anyone — including participants, their families, staff, or community members — can report a concern about a potential Code breach:
- To Hausmate: Call 1800 000 000 or email complaints@hausmate.com.au
- To the NDIS Commission: Call 1800 035 544 or visit ndiscommission.gov.au
Reports can be made anonymously. There will be no negative consequences for anyone who reports a concern in good faith.
7. Training
All Hausmate workers complete the NDIS Commission's free online orientation module before commencing work with participants. This module is available at ndiscommission.gov.au/workers/worker-training. Annual refresher training is mandatory for all staff.
